My dear,
I can only project for so long into the future's gateway, and so I'll try to make the most of this little time I have with you. Today, I'll tell you words my father never told me, and one you shouldn't tell your son if you deem it fit.
Be everything you can be, son -- everything but me. Let my path only motivate you whilst you thread yours. Don't waste your time trying to start from where I left off; rather, start from the scratch and let your own experience, failures, mistakes, and successes shape you into someone not me. We are two unlike beings, no matter how much we may look alike.
You see, son, I only see when I close my eyes. For I believe that the greatest ideas are born in the most silent of nights, the darkest of times, and the moment our fears are at its zenith. And so, I've taught my eyes to grasp every treasure the dark holds. Yet again, this is only my belief. You have it in you to believe otherwise.
Oh, have you ever heard silence speak? Probably not.. Teach your ears to listen keenly to silence; or rather, the sounds believed to be 'silence': The wind; the chirping crickets at night; the ebb and flow of the sea; and, the words of those who love you. For in them, great lessons lie!
The wind pledges it's loyalty to no man, and no matter how strong the sun, the sky or your tents might try to suppress it, it still remains ever violent. Unstable, yet it adopts a mature sense of reasoning to be calm, when the well-being of the environment solemnly begs it to. Be firm in your opinions and ideas, son, no matter how resilient opposing forces might rise against it. Your opinions are only right if you believe they are.
Notice that the chirping crickets only sings at night, which is the darkest of all forms time exists in. Does its voice dry up in the daytime? Son, work in silence, and let your success make the noise. And embrace whatever challenge that comes your way; it's only playing its vital role in shaping you. ..Now have you ever seen what magnificent beauty lies in the sea? Have you? All of it? Just like the others, the sea also employs a unique pattern of silence, boasting of almost nothing to the outside world, when it harbours a much larger world in it. I can only hope you adopt this humble mindset. Now the words your friends, and family--all those that love you -- are meant to teach you all of these lessons, but should they lack this knowledge, it becomes your duty to teach them. Just as I've taught you.
Pride, they say, goes before a fall. What then comes after the fall? That's left for you to discover. I discovered mine based on the decisions I took, and the actions I made in my time. I'm sure you'll discover yours quite the same way.
But above all, listen to your heart. Though it's the youngest in experience, it's the oldest with your trust. Listen to your heart and fathers won't use the wind as good examples to their sons. They'll use you, my boy! Still, love God more than anything imaginable. The heart I asked you to listen is dumb and void. It can only be occupied by one of these two beings: God, and your desires, the one you mistakenly call the Devil. You can harbour just one at a time while you live, so, decide wisely who plays the music better for you to listen to.
Now my dear, when you've lit your torch so bright that it radiates for the world to see, don't use your torch to light the path of others. Lest when it's time for you to leave, they'll be left again in the dark. Use your flame to light the torch of others so that they lead their own path and light the torch of whoever comes their way.
Have in mind that the actions you take now, echoes in eternity.
Well, son, the gateway is closing. Better sign out now.
From a loving father that's yet to become a father.
See you in a couple of years, son!
