If you had the brain to visit this page, the it's safe to assume that you're above age eight. And that means, you should have about a thousand habits now -- some, good; some, bad; some, funny; some, not; some, nasty; and some, uncategorized -- attributed to your personality, if not more.
The whole point is that you surely have a lot of habits, and habits are responsible for linking you to the people encircling you right now as well as for those avoiding you too.
The reason people avoid you can be because of the way you behave to them. Or maybe, it's because they feel like your character goes against everything they stand for. Still, it could be because you annoy them.
Most of your habits -- good and bad -- are practised without your knowledge. Or you could know of that habit, but might be ignorant of how it affects those around you.
And so, I'll be sharing with you, some habits that poses as a threat to the well-being of those around you and you, yourself.
Snacking simply means 'eating inbetween meals'. (Usually breakfast and lunch.) As harmless as snacking may seem, it promises a lot of danger once turned into a hobby.
The thing about snacking is that it's tied with sugar. Most snacks we eat contain very high sugar content, and that can have adverse effects on us in diverse ways. Whilst you gobble down that glass of milk, or nibble on your sweet donut, your teeth harbours about a thousand sugar molecules. Which, over time, would be converted to acids by bacteria if certain preventive measures aren't carried out (e.g. brushing).
And not only can snacking affect your teeth negatively, it can also destabilize your blood sugar levels, resulting in low sugar levels (hypoglycemia) or high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia).
And if that's not enough, snacking makes you exceed your budget; in cash and in your calorie intake. While spending more than budgeted to buy that meat pie, you could as well be exceeding your recommended daily calorie intake. Both of which can be devastating.
A lot of people skip breakfast and you're probably one of them. Usually, the reasons behind this is work, school or the usual fad of 'watching your weight'. Perhaps, if you knew you are doing yourself more harm than good, you'll have a change of mind.
Now, as weird as it may sound, skipping breakfast can actually make you gain weight. How? I'll tell you.
Skipping breakfast unleashed an almost insatiable desire for foods rich in sugar, fat and sodium content. Plus, it increases your appetite even before its time for lunch.
But those are just the good sides of the bad sides of skipping breakfast. The more adverse effects include fatigue; which makes you susceptible to cancer; inability to focus, stomach ulcer, and lastly, vulnerability to diseases and infections.
So when next you think of leaving the house without taking anything for breakfast, you think twice about it. Take your time stuff something into your stomach. No matter how little. It'll go a long way in helping you in ways you can never imagine.
Nail biting or onychophagia is as deadly as it's dangerous. You see, people rarely see the harm in biting their nails because they often see it as something 'normal' -- or close to normal. Most times, you bite your nails without the knowledge of you doing it. And even when you realize what you're doing, you hardly stop, due to the pleasure it gives you.
Did you know that nail biting could be deadlier than HIV at times?
A recent study has proven that your fingernails harbor bacteria twice as much the amount of bacteria on your palms. This is true due to many reasons: you keep long nails; you rarely wash your hands; and, when you do, you probably forget your fingernails.
How is biting your fingernails deadly? Well, biting nails, in some cases has proven to be a fast means of contracting the Human Pappiloma Virus (H.P.V). HPV, like most viruses, and unlike HIV, can be contacted via skin-to-skin contact. Fingernails are usually the fastest means of contracting this virus, especially in the case of people who are sexually active, where one or both partners is already infected with the virus.
Another thing you don't know is that biting your nails isn't quite normal, as you used to think. In fact, In 2012, the American Psychiatric Association reclassified biting fingernails as a form of Obsessive Comparative Disorder (O.C.D).
You're most likely to realize that you bite your nails out of fear, anxiety, worry, and depression. Although, there are some who only do it because they're lazy enough to get a nail-cutter. Either of the two is just as dangerous to your health.
Keep a nail-cutter close by everytime. Wash your hands after every activity that requires your hands. And if you're still addicted to this act, then cut them short. Just remember, biting your nails can never be the solution to your problems. Rather, it'll present to you, new problems from a whole new angle.
The first thing that comes to the minds of almost every teenager when invited to a party, is alcohol. If it's not the first, then it would be the second, after 'hooking up with other teenagers'.
The sweetest of things are usually the deadliest or the ones you should watch out for; and whether your favorite alcoholic beverage is sweet, sour, bitter or not, this saying still applies to it.
Taking alcohol is far too dangerous to be turned into a habit. Excessive alcohol intake can break down almost all of your body muscles, if not all. Not only that -- it can also render a great damage to your DNA. This is often why pregnant women are advised to abstain from alcoholic drinks.
According to a 2012 study from Rotgers University, excessive alcohol intake can destroy about forty percent of your brain cells without giving them a chance to regenerate. Imagine that happened to you!
People often brush off the warnings on the effects of alcohol intake, because it 'rarely affects everyone'. They keep forgetting that like every other bad habit, the effects take time to fully surface. And when they do, it's usually at an acute stage when almost nothing can be done.
You know the truth now, while it's still early. You have the chance to prevent all these dangers from coming your way. Not only the dangers of alcohol, but of the above mentioned and the million others I didn't mention.

1. Snacking:
Snacking tastes just as sweet as it sounds and you often ignore the dangers attached to it while you're busy smacking your lips at the pleasure derived on its aftertaste.Snacking simply means 'eating inbetween meals'. (Usually breakfast and lunch.) As harmless as snacking may seem, it promises a lot of danger once turned into a hobby.

2. Watching TV late at night.
Watching TV isn't really a bad thing. What's bad is watching it for several hours, or worse, letting it deprive you of your much deserved sleep.
You'd be surprised at how much a simple act of sitting on the couch, with your gaze fixed upon the TV can adversely affect you.
Sure, you know it can give you vision problems. But did you know it can also cause you to be obese?
More so, watching TV can be a waste of time since you can use about the same time to read, plan out your day, or even check up on a friend!
Watching TV late at night decreases your metabolism process and increases your catabolism process just as much. Meaning, even when you sit idly, laughing, crying, or portraying no emotions whatsoever to whatever it is you're watching, you're gaining a great amount of calories. What's more is that watching TV late at night makes you hungry, and when you become hungry, you resolve to snacking; greatly adding to your already exceeded calorie intake.
The dangers of watching TV too much goes as far as having some special effects on kids.
A recent study holds it that children who watch TV late at night often fantasize a lot about whatever they watch. They begin to see themselves as fictional characters, which is who they aren't. This can affect their self-esteem positively or negatively. I guess it all depends on whatever they watch late every night.
When it comes to spending cash, you should be wise enough to tell your needs from your wants. Quit spending money before you get it. You should have it in mind that just because you can buy it, doesn't mean you should buy it.
The bad side of overspending are quite few, but each is devastating in its own way. And not only can these effects take a toll on your wallet, it could speak poorly of your personality; rendering you as a wasteful and extravagant individual.
If you don't have a good reason to save money, let it be for the possibility of an emergency. Life has a funny way of playing with your mind. The castle you think you have now might be reduced to a pile of sand tomorrow.

3. Overspending
When it comes to spending cash, you should be wise enough to tell your needs from your wants. Quit spending money before you get it. You should have it in mind that just because you can buy it, doesn't mean you should buy it.

4. Keeping late nights
Much of what should be said about keeping late nights has been laid down in point number two above. But there are still a few dangers of this habit I'd like to share with you.
Keeping late nights makes you hate mornings. This is often the reason why you start your day feeling negative and probably spend the entire day celebrating that negative energy.
Aside from that, sleeping late or keeping late nights can cause you stroke.
Surprised? Don't be.
Keeping late nights heightens your blood pressure, which can lead to stroke over time. The rise in your blood pressure could also lead to the shut down of your kidney, lungs and liver.
Plus, keeping late nights causes you to lose focus throughout the day. It can make you moody and can cause you depression. Now here's a shocker: It can affect your G.P.A. greatly.
Yeah, if you're a student, reading past your bedtime isn't good for you, contrary to what you've been brought up to believe. Once you decide to let your reading eat into your sleeping hours, you're likely to wake up the next day feeling miserable, moody, and possibly, depressed.
Moreover, you'll probably forget half of what you read out of lack of focus.
Yet again, it wouldn't be so bad to read at night if you don't do it every night.
But if you have the chance to read during the day, then why shouldn't you?
5. Skipping breakfast
A lot of people skip breakfast and you're probably one of them. Usually, the reasons behind this is work, school or the usual fad of 'watching your weight'. Perhaps, if you knew you are doing yourself more harm than good, you'll have a change of mind.
